Dine at Vast
For an unparalleled dining experience with breathtaking panoramic views, a visit to Vast restaurant in the Devon Energy Building is essential. Perched 726 feet above ground level on the 49th floor, Vast offers sweeping vistas that feel as though you can see for miles, though perhaps not quite to Texas!
During lunch, they feature an upscale buffet, the “Daily Table,” for a very reasonable $19.95. It was an incredible way to kick off my visit, allowing me to orient myself and spot various OKC districts and landmarks like the State Capitol building, Myriad Gardens, and Scissortail Park from above. Beyond the view, the food was genuinely delicious, especially the decadent key lime pie and crème brĂ»lĂ©e available for dessert.
Vast stands out as one of the most memorable OKC restaurants, with the view alone justifying the visit, complemented by exquisite cuisine.

Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is a deeply moving and essential experience for any visitor. It stands as a powerful testament to the events of April 19, 1995, and the resilience of the community. The museum recently underwent a $10 million renovation, featuring state-of-the-art technology, new artifacts, and immersive exhibits that provide detailed insights into the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
Visitors can explore comprehensive information on the investigation, including the vehicle Timothy McVeigh was driving upon his arrest. A newly added 40-foot glass overlook thoughtfully connects the museum with the outdoor memorial, fostering a seamless reflective journey. Plan to spend more time here than you might initially anticipate; many visitors find themselves engrossed for four hours or more due to the wealth of information, personal stories, and powerful videos.
While the subject matter is profound, the museum beautifully articulates the “Oklahoma Standard”—tenets of Service, Honor, and Kindness. This spirit was profoundly evident in the aftermath of the bombing, as people selflessly ran towards the devastation to help. Today, these values continue to be a cornerstone of the OKC community, making the museum a powerful and inspiring tribute to human resilience.

Factory Obscura
Factory Obscura, an immersive art experience, first opened its doors on September 21st, 2019, within “The Womb,” an art venue developed by The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne. If you’re looking for incredibly unique and vibrant Instagram photo opportunities in OKC, this is the place to be!
I was genuinely captivated by the sheer fun and wonder of exploring Factory Obscura. Visiting on a weekday afternoon allowed us to experience the entire exhibit without large crowds, providing ample time to immerse ourselves and capture countless creative photos. Each exhibit space is designed to be interactive and surprising, promising unexpected delights around every corner.
We spent our time giggling and snapping photos, thoroughly enjoying the immersive environment. I would gladly return again and again to witness how the exhibits evolve and change. While I won’t reveal all the surprises, I highly recommend planning sufficient time to explore every nook and cranny.
A note for visitors with sensory sensitivities: The experience includes music, flashing lights, and a multitude of visual stimuli. If anyone in your group has sensory issues, it might be beneficial for someone to walk through the exhibit first to assess. Even with the space almost entirely to ourselves, there were moments I needed to close my eyes and take a deep breath due to the intensity. It’s truly an amazing experience, but one to prepare for if you have sensory responses. The staff mentioned ambitious plans for future expansion and a commitment to full accessibility, including adult changing tables and highly accessible restrooms.

The Elephant Express Tram is a true lifesaver, especially on warm, humid days or when your feet need a rest. For $6 a person (children two and under free with a paying adult), it provides a leisurely ride through the park, offering fascinating insights into the exhibits. On a particularly hot day during my visit, this tram was a much-appreciated respite, allowing us to learn and relax with a cool breeze.
To make the most of your visit, check the OKC Zoo experiences page before your trip to note the schedule for activities like the Giraffe Feeding Platform, which is only open twice daily. For those interested in the zoo’s rich history, the Patricia and Byron J. Gambulos ZooZeum, housed in a historic 1935 Works Projects Administration building near Sanctuary Asia, offers a unique look at one of the country’s oldest zoos. It’s truly considered one of the best zoos in the United States.

OKC Zoo Elephant Experience
Ever wondered what an elephant’s skin feels like or dreamed of going behind the scenes with zookeepers? The OKC Zoo’s experience program offers incredible opportunities. My friend Amy and I participated in the Elephant experience, and it was truly amazing! I had the unforgettable chance to give Achara, a nearly five-year-old elephant, a massage, an absolutely epic moment. The zookeepers were fantastic, patiently answering our questions and sharing their passion while we basked in the pure joy of meeting Achara.
The zoo offers behind-the-scenes experiences with grizzly bears, flamingos, elephants, rhinos, Galapagos Tortoises, and sea lions. I wholeheartedly recommend signing up for several of these to spend an entire day learning directly from the experts and deepening your connection with these magnificent animals.

RIVERSPORT OKC
Get ready for a thrilling water adventure at RIVERSPORT! Soon, you’ll even be able to take surfing lessons on their new Flowrider. In the meantime, experience the rush of Class II-IV whitewater rafting right in the heart of Oklahoma City at RIVERSPORT Rapids.
Whitewater Rafting at RIVERSPORT Rapids
Having the opportunity to go whitewater rafting in the middle of a major city like Oklahoma City was an unbelievable experience! I confess, I said a few pre-prayers that I wouldn’t fall out of the raft, and probably laughed like a crazy person throughout the entire trip because it was so much fun.
Practical Tips for Whitewater Rafting:
- Footwear: You must wear closed-heel shoes. Pack a pair of water-friendly sandals like Tevas, Chacos, or tennis shoes you don’t mind getting completely soaked.
- Attire: A swimsuit with a pair of shorts is ideal. Many participants wear gym clothes and athletic shoes.
- Eyewear: If you wear glasses or sunglasses, a strap is essential to secure them to your head.
- Post-Rafting: Bring a bag for your wet clothes because you will get thoroughly drenched! Trust me, very few spots on your body will remain dry.
- Safety Gear: Life jackets and helmets are mandatory and provided. Plus-size visitors will find that the life jackets extend to be quite comfortable; guides are available to ensure proper fit.
- Sunscreen: Don’t forget to apply plenty of sunscreen! You’ll be on the water in the OKC sunshine for about an hour. My cheeks and nose turned a lovely shade of hot pink after my trip – learn from my mistake!
- Reservations: Reservations are highly recommended. If you’re with a group, sit together for the safety briefing and inform your guide about your group size (rafts typically accommodate six people). Our guide, Ron, was fantastic and made us feel very comfortable.
- Timing: I suggest scheduling RIVERSPORT towards the end of your OKC trip. I was definitely sore for a few days afterward, a gentle reminder that I don’t typically whitewater raft! I was glad to be dealing with tired muscles on my flight home rather than during my exploration.
- Photos: Don’t worry about capturing your adventure; an onsite photographer takes pictures during your trip, which you can access online to download.

You can book an hour or longer appointment to indulge in a luxurious foot soak, unwind in the eucalyptus steam room, and detoxify in the aspen cedar sauna. The spa also offers exquisite facials, private soaking tubs, and professional massages. During my visit, I chose a geranium, eucalyptus, and orange peel blend for my foot soak, designed to re-energize muscles, uplift spirits, and even help with allergies—a truly blissful experience.
I was captivated by the gorgeous bathtubs available for private soaks and am eager to try one on my next visit. Even more intriguing are their horoscope facials, where you provide your birth date, time, and location, and the aesthetician shares insights into your astrological sign while you enjoy a relaxing facial. UdĂĄnder’s hours are split daily, with specific times for women and separate times for men, so it’s essential to check their website and make a reservation in advance for this unique spa experience.

Although I missed visiting it, I now know it’s conveniently located near the OKC Zoo and Science Museum, making it an easy addition to a future trip. The museum showcases twelve different breeds of pigeons, alongside exhibits on pigeon racing, the role of pigeons during wartime, and much more. If you have an interest in the history and fascinating world of pigeons, this museum is a unique and informative stop.

Where to Stay in Oklahoma City
Hilton Skirvin Hilton Hotel
During my girlfriend’s getaway to Oklahoma City, we had the pleasure of staying at the historic Skirvin Hilton Hotel. Located ideally in the heart of OKC, the Skirvin offers a perfect base for exploring the city, with easy access to all the main attractions. While I had heard whispers of the Skirvin being haunted and to be cautious, I’m happy to report that I experienced no ghostly encounters during my stay!
Instead, I fell completely in love with this magnificent historic hotel and the stunning renovations it has undergone. It perfectly blends its heritage as a Historic Hotel of America with pure luxury. The lobby is truly impressive, with black chandeliers, plush seating, and evening piano music that transports you back in time. The hotel, originally opened in 1911, has seen many transformations, including sitting vacant for years before its extensive renovation from 2005 to 2007, which brought it back to its former glory.
For a peek into our accommodations, check out this video of the room we stayed in at the Skirvin.

Even after a week of deep exploration, my “to-do” list for Oklahoma City grew exponentially, a testament to the city’s endless offerings. It was fascinating to hear locals passionately describe their favorite spots and proudly share insights into the MAPS project, a tax program that has played a crucial role in revitalizing the city. The residents of OKC genuinely embody a vibrant excitement for their city’s transformation and hospitality.
