A visit to the College of the Ozarks, affectionately known as “Hard Work U,” is an unexpectedly enriching experience. This unique institution provides students with the opportunity to work instead of paying tuition, fostering a strong work ethic and character. The beautiful campus features student-run enterprises, including a grist mill, a dairy, a fruitcake and jelly kitchen, and a fine art gallery. We were particularly impressed by their grits, which we still order years later – they truly are the best we’ve found! The picturesque campus, including its stunning chapel, offers numerous photo opportunities and a glimpse into a truly inspiring educational model.

Golf enthusiasts will rejoice at Payne’s Valley Golf Course, America’s first and only public access golf course designed by none other than Tiger Woods. Located at Big Cedar Lodge, this course pays tribute to Ozarks native and World Golf Hall of Fame member Payne Stewart. It features an inviting layout, pristine water features, expansive fairways, large greens, and a spectacular 19th-hole – the “Big Rock at Payne’s Valley.” It’s a world-class golfing experience set against the stunning backdrop of the Ozarks.
