Prepare to embark on a gastronomic adventure as we reveal some of our top picks for the best restaurants to visit in Reno, Nevada.
Our commitment to providing genuine recommendations means that the vast majority of our restaurant visits are anonymous. We dine just like any other customer, allowing us to experience the service, atmosphere, and food exactly as you would. This approach ensures our reviews are authentic and reflect the true quality of each establishment.
Occasionally, we are invited to press events where our visit is known, but these instances are rare. Our primary goal remains to meticulously curate a list of truly amazing restaurants that deliver exceptional dining experiences. We’re proud to partner with the Reno Tahoe Visitor Bureau to highlight the incredible attractions and culinary offerings in the area. Rest assured, all opinions expressed here are our own, born from a genuine love for Reno’s vibrant food culture.
If we encounter a less-than-stellar experience – whether it’s poor service, subpar food, or anything else that falls short – we simply omit that restaurant from our list. Our priority is to ensure that when you choose one of our recommended spots and spend your hard-earned money, you receive the best possible experience. Thankfully, such occurrences in Reno are few and far between. On the rare occasion we’ve had an “off” experience, we’ve often heard that we must have caught the restaurant on an unusual day. In such cases, we make it a point to return for a second visit, confirming whether the initial experience was an anomaly or if the restaurant truly doesn’t meet our high standards.

This restaurant takes familiar dishes and elevates them with unexpected flavor combinations. The individuals behind the counter are not just helpful and efficient, but genuinely passionate about their craft, and that enthusiasm is contagious. It’s the kind of place that makes you contemplate moving in permanently.
My chai tea from Perenn may very well have been one of the best I’ve had in a long, long time – perfectly spiced and wonderfully soothing. The entire bakery exudes an amazing, artisanal atmosphere. If I lived anywhere remotely close, I’d be a daily fixture, perhaps setting up a mobile office just to soak in the ambiance and indulge. I might end up consuming my entire year’s calorie allowance in chai tea and pastries, but honestly, it would be entirely worth it. Little Nugget Diner
For an authentic taste of Reno’s classic, no-frills dining scene, head straight to the Little Nugget Diner. Tucked away at the back of the Golden Nugget casino on the Row, this greasy spoon is home to the legendary “world-famous Awful Awful Burger.” As its name playfully suggests, this burger is “awful big and awful good” – a local institution that has garnered immense popularity and numerous accolades.
The Awful Awful Burger is a true spectacle: a full half-pound of perfectly grilled ground chuck steak hamburger, served on a soft onion bun, piled high with all the classic trimmings including crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, and fresh onion. But the feast doesn’t stop there; it comes accompanied by a full pound of their special Nugget fries, which are just as delicious and satisfying as the burger itself. This iconic burger has even been featured on Food Wars on the Travel Channel, solidifying its place in culinary lore and earning a ton of local awards.

South Reno Restaurants: Familiar Favorites and Local Brews
While our focus often leans towards celebrating locally-owned small businesses, there are a couple of noteworthy restaurants in South Reno that deserve a special mention for their popularity and consistent quality. This area offers a blend of beloved regional chains and unique local establishments, ensuring a diverse range of dining options.
Firstly, for fans of classic West Coast fast food, you’ll be delighted to know that In-N-Out Burger has two convenient locations in the Reno area. One is perfectly situated in South Reno, just off Virginia Street, while the other can be found in neighboring Sparks. Their fresh, made-to-order burgers and fries are always a hit.

Their commitment to great customer service is evident with every visit, and you can’t leave without snapping a photo with one of their charming bear statues. There’s also a Black Bear Diner location in Sparks, making it an accessible choice for hearty meals. These two options provide reliable and satisfying dining experiences for different cravings.

Great Basin Brewery and Restaurant
Great Basin Brewery and Restaurant is a cornerstone of the Reno food and beer scene, offering an expansive menu that truly caters to everyone, alongside a few surprising culinary delights. This place isn’t just a brewery; it’s a full-fledged dining experience where innovative food meets exceptional craft beer. When you visit, make sure to try their legendary “Mac Attack Pizza!” This isn’t your average pizza; it’s a glorious combination of creamy macaroni and cheese and savory bacon, all spread over a crispy pizza crust – a truly delicious and unforgettable creation. Furthermore, their “cheese bread” is far more substantial and delightful than any conventional expectation you might have; it’s a meal in itself. And, of course, while you’re there, order an “Icky” – their famous Icky IPA – and savor a truly great local beer experience.

I must elaborate on the “Molten Cheese Lava Loaf” again because it is a truly glorious bowl of cheesy goodness that you absolutely do not want to miss! This masterpiece is served in a house-made “Icky bread” bowl, brimming with a creamy cheddar beer cheese sauce. It’s then baked to perfection, forming a delectable crust of provolone and parmesan. Oh, hello yum! This is the kind of dish you dream about. Grab your significant other, your closest friends, or even head to Great Basin on your own – just to experience the ooey-gooey, epic deliciousness that is their cheesy bread bowl.
Additionally, the grilled cheese sandwich here is far from your normal, boring rendition. It’s crafted with parmesan-crusted Icky bread, generously filled with a blend of Swiss, cheddar, smoked provolone, pepper jack, and mozzarella cheeses. This is not just a recommendation; it is a MUST-VISIT and, without exaggeration, one of the best restaurants in Reno. It’s home to arguably the best pizza in Reno, and frankly, some of the best food, period, in the city!

Wet Hen Cafe
The Wet Hen Cafe is a charming, intimate restaurant, seating perhaps 35 guests, that embodies the spirit of a true local favorite. It’s the kind of place where people are recognized, where greetings are exchanged, and where regulars return multiple times a week, a clear sign of its cherished status within the community. During our breakfast visit, we observed numerous familiar faces warmly interacting, reflecting the cafe’s inviting and familial atmosphere.
We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast here, opting for their delicious eggs benedict and a satisfying croissant sandwich. A thoughtful touch that coffee lovers will appreciate is that the coffee is served in large carafes, ensuring you can easily get your caffeine fix without constantly waiting for refills.
The eggs benedict itself was a highlight, generously smothered in a sweet basil hollandaise sauce, perfectly complementing the two medium-poached eggs atop toasted English muffins with savory Black Forest Ham. Every element was carefully prepared, creating a harmonious and incredibly flavorful dish that truly showcased the cafe’s dedication to quality breakfast fare.
