The menu at The Pearl is thoughtfully curated, offering an impressive selection of dishes that cater to a variety of palates and dietary needs, including delicious vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Deciding what to order was a delightful challenge, given the many enticing choices. The owner, with a background as a skilled bartender, has ensured the cocktail menu is equally impressive. It features a creative twist on classic cocktails alongside house-crafted concoctions that are both innovative and delicious. Don’t miss their intriguing Corpse Reviver No. 2 or the unique Bad Skydiver, a bourbon-based drink infused with cinnamon and fresh orange flavors.
For our meal, the Mediterranean Pasta was an epicurean delight, bursting with flavors from capers, sun-dried tomato tapenade, fresh tomatoes, and Kalamata olives, all tossed in a delicate wine butter sauce with crumbled feta and tender artichoke hearts. I also savored a customized veggie burger, and our server was exceptionally accommodating, making my modifications feel effortless. Their philosophy that you should truly love the food you order resonated deeply. Though our dinner left us wonderfully satiated, we regrettably had to skip dessert. For a taste of authentic Mexican street food, seek out Genesis Churros Y Tamales – an eye-catching bright blue stand located conveniently across from Central Washington University. During our visit, everything on the menu was a steal at just $5, offering incredible value for truly delicious treats.
I cannot stress this enough: order at least twice the amount of churros you think you’ll want. They are made fresh to order, served piping hot, and generously coated in cinnamon sugar – an absolutely delightful and addictive treat. We found ourselves reaching for more almost immediately. We also sampled the Barbacoa Taco, which came with a surprising kick! A word of caution I wish I had known to give my husband beforehand: it was intensely spicy. While he generally enjoys heat, he confirmed this was on another level of fiery flavor. So, if you love spice, go for it, but be prepared!

Visitors can explore the charming farmstead, learn about the challenges and triumphs of early settlers, and imagine life in the late 19th century. The park offers walking trails and picnic areas, making it a peaceful and educational destination for families and history enthusiasts. It’s a wonderful place to connect with Washington’s agricultural past and appreciate the resilience of its pioneers.
Timothy Hay: Ellensburg’s Prized Agricultural Export
While exploring Ellensburg, you might come across references to “Timothy Hay” and wonder about its significance. Timothy Hay is not a person, but rather a highly valued type of hay – the very forage that horses eat! Living in Eastern Washington, one becomes accustomed to seeing countless hay bales lining Interstate 90. However, I was fascinated to learn that much of this hay is, in fact, Timothy Hay, a premium quality forage. It is so prized that it’s sought after by prestigious equestrian communities, including those that feed Kentucky Derby horses, and is shipped internationally. Ellensburg and the surrounding Kittitas Valley are major producers of this essential crop, highlighting the region’s rich agricultural heritage and its global impact.
Colockum Wildlife Area: A Haven for Nature and Wildlife
Located north of Ellensburg, the Colockum Wildlife Area is a vast and ecologically diverse region, making it an exceptional destination for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers. Our stay in a third-floor king room was simply fantastic; the comfort of the bedding was so exceptional, I wished I could take it home!
The room was perfectly equipped for a delightful couples’ weekend getaway, offering everything we needed. Amenities included a plush king-size bed, a flat-screen TV for entertainment, complimentary Wi-Fi to stay connected, a convenient mini-refrigerator, a coffee maker with K-cups for our morning brew, an in-room safe for valuables, and ample space to unwind. The Hotel Windrow’s prime downtown location makes it incredibly easy to explore Ellensburg on foot. We loved being able to leisurely walk to local shops, art galleries, and fantastic restaurants for dinner, all just steps from our door. The hotel beautifully preserves historical features from the original Elks building while offering the sophisticated, comfortable luxury of its new boutique rooms, creating an atmosphere that is both captivating and incredibly welcoming. We would enthusiastically return to the Hotel Windrow for another romantic escape.
