This year’s Carnival Day of Play theme was delightfully whimsical: “Cat in the Hat for President!” We, the invited guests, enthusiastically embraced our roles as the Cat in the Hat’s “secret service,” ensuring the event ran smoothly and that every child sported a radiant smile. The day was packed with an array of engaging activities designed for children and their families. Kids eagerly lined up for their chance to cast their votes for Cat in the Hat for President, Thing 1 and Thing 2 for Vice President, and even weigh in on crucial decisions like pizza versus hot dogs, or high fives versus fist bumps, among other fun choices. Ballots were carefully collected, and each young voter proudly earned an “I Voted” sticker, a tangible symbol of their participation in this playful democratic process. After a nail-biting count, pizza ultimately triumphed, alongside the ever-popular high fives!
The pure joy radiating from the children’s faces throughout the day is an image I will forever cherish. I distinctly remember a young boy named Cameron who absolutely adored playing cornhole. He returned to our booth countless times, each instance asking with an adorable eagerness if he could play just one more game. His sweetness and genuine excitement were infectious; his smile was so captivating that you wished you could freeze that moment in time, allowing his happiness to resonate for hours on end.
We also met a small child who, between demanding physical therapy appointments, managed to visit the event.
